FAQ
I had my needs assessment appointment but can’t remember what my reasonable accommodations are?
Options-All information is emailed to your student mail (@setu.ie) after the appointment. It will outline all of your supports/ training with AT if applicable to you. It will also give your tutor and ASD contact details if applicable also. IF you can’t locate the email then call to reception or phone 051 302758.
I can’t find my way around campus?
Options- you can always drop into Student Life and Learning for help. You can use our interactive map (see our section on directions). Drop into ASC centre once you are registered (we open at 8.30am) and a staff member can help you.

Parking on campus is free – there is clamping in operation also.
I am having problems with my course work/presentations?
Options- Contact your ASD work in ASC. Ask your tutor for help and support in preparing for your presentation.
I am struggling with the level of maths on my course?
You can book an appointment with a tutor in the maths centre in the FTG building in person or on Zoom. Just email them for a time slot. This is a free service for all students.
I am finding it hard to make friends?
Options- You can always come to ASC to relax and be with other registered students. You can join in the lunch club that runs twice a month on campus in our sensory room. You can contact the Students Union or look on our webpage about joining our clubs and societies. We also have a Peer2Peer support just drop by SLL reception in the business building. On campus we have a careers office to help students prepare for going forward in their career. Careers Service
SETU also links with other institutions that support students who are autistic in starting on the career path through Specialisterne who recruit and support neurodivergent graduates.
I am struggling financially?
Options- There is a Student Assistant Fund to help. Full details are at SETU | Student Assistance Fund (SAF)
I am not feeling very well?
Options- There is a medical centre on campus with a university nurse available to you. Contact SETU | Medical Services Waterford Campus
I need someone to talk to about my mental health?

Options- There is a counselling service on campus and you can book an appointment (it’s free). There is also the ‘Togetherall’ app to link in with other people (anonymously) online to help. QR codes are available on campus. Togetherall
Remember all you need to do is reach out to staff for help. Student Life & Learning or Academic Skill Centre is always ready to link you in with the right service/person to support you at any time.
How could this affect me?
Things to know
You may hear new terms on campus and not know what they are. Here is a quick list to help.
Moodle– Virtual Learning Environment. This is where your course information will be sent. Check Moodle regularly for information.
Student mail– 12345678@setu.ie. This is your student number with your SETU mail address. Check your email regularly for information.
Assignment Brief– This is the work a lecturer may assign you.
Referencing– May be Harvard/ APA/ Oscola. It is the source of information you have used in your written work.
Citation-is the way of giving credit to the author within the essay.
Labs/tutorials-these are more practical classes, small group work and more interactive. May be mandatory.
Academic journals– these are peer reviewed publications that break down scholarly research across various disciplines, providing a trusted source of knowledge. Sourced online via library website
Card Office-This is where you get your student card. Located next to the FTG building in the Novus Card Office.
