Find out about our campus atmosphere, locations and general environment. Our map below shows our Waterford main campus on the Cork road. Using this toolkit will help you to find your way around campus, sign post you to supports/services tailored to your needs and hopefully help you to settle in and make new friends in our community.
Background
Our university has 5 campuses….
With campuses across the south east of Ireland in Waterford, Carlow, Wexford, Wicklow, and Kilkenny, we bring higher education, research, investment, innovation, and opportunities to every community we serve.
Our University supports over 18,000 learners and employs more than 2,000 staff. It’s a vibrant community for learning, research and collaboration.
We are dedicated to fostering welcoming, inclusive, diverse and transformative environments for students of all ages and backgrounds, both locally and internationally, as well as for our staff, researchers, and partners.
We have restaurants in the main atrium at Centra and a Frank and Honest Café. there is also the Granary restaurant by the business building. A canteen on the College St. campus and facilities at the Granary building. Further information is in our Autism & Uni toolkit.
You can always drop into the Students Union to relax and there are gaming facilities there as well.
There is a library, places to eat/drink, a gym, sensory/quiet rooms and a variety of Student Services to explore.
How could this affect me?
The campus is bigger than you might be used to at School or College and getting lost is common for new students and when timetables change. Becoming familiar with key buildings and locations may help you to prepare.
3 main places that students that are autistic may need to be aware of are:
Our reception area Student Life & Learning in the business building for registration with the disability service and general information.
Academic Skill Centre for registered students (only), based in the Luke Wadding library. Here we have our tutors and ESW worker for support.
Counselling service, for times when things may be too overwhelming and you need to talk to someone in depth.

Coming to a big campus can feel daunting and overwhelming. It is important to think of your self-care when navigating campus life. It takes time to settle in. Lots of students can feel the same way. Here are some question/tips to think about.
Remember
-It is normal to feel homesick at times.
-It may look like everyone else is confident with their study and work, but it may not be the case.
-It is okay to take time making friends and knowing your class group.
-think about your healthy habits and exercise which can help.
-think about keeping a calendar to help you plan, take small tasks one at a time.
-think about keeping some small cash on your person for any emergency
-Always keep your student card with you on campus for student discounts
-Do check your student mail and Moodle regularly
-if you drive to campus be aware of parking areas and clamping
-be aware not to park near residences but explore parking at RSC and using the SETU shuttle bus
